Rally against Lankan killings
VASHI: The Navi Mumbai Tamil Sangam organised a peace march in Vashi on Saturday in protest of the alleged genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils.
Around 200 protestors took part in the march from Vashi railway station to Vashi bus depot. Following the march, the protestors sat on a dharna fast till evening.
“We want the Sri Lankan Tamils to get their rights due to them and the Sri Lankan government should act in this regard,” said Rajgopal, chairman of the Sangam.
Tamils in Maharashtra have decided to organise such protests to extend the demand for peace and progress of the Tamils in Sri Lanka,” he added.
Rajgopal said the Indian government should be doing more bring the issue to international focus, “The government should introduce a resolution with the International Human Rights Commission against the Sri Lankan government and army for the genocide committed by them against the Tamils there.”
“The government should also step in to stop the attacks on the Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan forces,” said Mahadevan, managing trustee of the Sangam.
