VASHI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has often been accused not paying equal attention to all nodes. Digha, which is better known as the entrance to the city, is one such node that has long been devoid of development works.

Proof of this lies in the fact that despite there being 134 gardens in the city, Digha does not have a single one. While there are 40 parks in Vashi and 26 in Nerul, Digha is only dotted by slums.

After the issue was raised multiple times by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Aparna Gavate, the NMMC has now decided to build a children’s park in the node. The civic body has also approved Rs2.43 crore for the project. Spread over an area of 5,600 square metres, the garden will be called Sane Guruji children’s park.

While trees and bushes will line it, models of peacocks and monkeys will be created at the entry. The park will also be equipped with world-class amenities including a play area, fountains, a floating jetty, a toy train, etc. Further, the park will also have a replica of ‘Shyamchi Aai’, a Marathi book written by Sane Guruji. The construction of park is expected to be completed in eight months.
