Chaitra mela at Urban Haat drawing crowds
CBD BELAPUR: The ongoing Chaitra Mela at Urban Haat in Belapur is turning out to be a crowd-puller.
More than 70 artisans across 10 states have set up stalls at the fair and have put on sale a variety of handicrafts.
“Urban Haat has become an everyday market where the consumer can purchase handloom, handicrafts and food products at a reasonable price directly from the artisans,” said KSV Nair, the manager of Urban Haat.
Nair added, “Almost every evening, visitors come to the haat and have a good time with their families. In addition to purchasing genuine products, they can also eat from a variety of food items ranging from Kolhapuri, Rajasthani to Malvani food.”
While household items made of terracotta have come from West Bengal, artisans from states such as Assam, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have put on display handloom products such as sarees and dresses. Alphonsos from Devgad and other food products from Malvani are among the other attractions at the event.
Every Saturday, a documentary by the film division is also screened, while on Sundays cultural programmes are organised from 7.30pm.
“The objective of Urban Haat is to provide a platform to rural and urban artisans of the country to sell their products directly to the customer,” said Nair.
