CIVIC BODY, CIDCO RAZE TWO ILLEGAL BUILDINGS IN CITY
NAVI MUMBAI: After facing flak for inaction on illegal structures, planning agencies in the city have finally decided to do something about the problem at hand.
On Wednesday, both the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation ( NMMC) and t he City and Industrial Development Cor poration ( Cidco) razed unauthorised constructions in the city.
In the first case, the NMMC demolished the unauthorised unit of a hotel situated in CBD Belapur, following a court order. Hotel Vishwa Kamal had annexed marginal space and extended the hotel by constructing a canteen in the society premises.
“Occupants of the society had filed a suit against the hotel in civil court. Following the court’s orders, the construction was demolished,” said Manohar Gangurde, ward officer, Belapur.
Cidco’s demolition drive on the same day was at sector 19 in Ulwe.
Further, ahead of festive season, NMMC has also initiated action against shopkeepers who have illegally extended their shops to sell crackers. The encroachment department has issued notifications to all ward offices to take action against shopkeepers who have illegally installed weather sheds in front of their shops. The weather sheds have, in turn, blocked the footpaths creating a hindrance for public.
“Shopkee pers using t he marginal spaces outside establishments will face strict action. No shopkeepers have been given such permissions in the city,” said Aziz Shaikh, deputy municipal commissioner, encroachment department.
