NAVI MUMBAI: The eight new minibuses that were procured by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) last month were finally inaugurated on three new routes on Friday.

Of the three new routes, two are on the ring route. “These new services will provide relief to commuters travelling to both - the commercial and industrial areas,” said Anwar Shaikh, NMMT chairman.

Of the three new routes, no. 21 extra will cover CBD Belapur, plying between Belapur village and Artist Colony.

Further, to make commuting easier to the industrial area, another bus route has been planned to include areas between Ghansoli and Mahape MIDC.

This will also include Mahape and Kopar Khairane. Commuters on this route have been long complaining about the lack of trans- port in the area as auto drivers refuse to ply here.

The third route, which is also a ring route, will go pass through Turbhe railway station, APMC the Vashi depot, RTO office and will finally terminate at the starting point.

NMMT had earlier introduced two minibuses on the ring route from DY Patil stadium to Karave Nagar, sector 48, Nerul, near Seawoods.

The aim for introducing the 10 30-seater minibuses in the city is to make commuting short distances economic. The mini buses in Nerul have already been appreciated by residents.
