MUMBAI: Citizens woke up to a nip in the air, as minimum temperatures in the suburbs dropped below 20 de g rees Celsius on Wednesday for the first time this year.

The minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 19.8 degree Celsius, 1.7 degrees below normal temperatures and a drop of almost two degrees since Tuesday, when Santacruz recorded 21.5 degree Celsius.

In Colaba the minimum temperature dropped marginally from 23.8 degree Celsius on Tuesday to 23 degree Celsius.

While the northernmost parts of the country have begun experiencing chilly winds and dipping temperatures, icy winds will gradually make Mumbai cooler, weather officials said. “The drop in temperature is not because of a specific cold wave or weather system. The wind pattern is predominantly becoming northerly and northeasterly,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, IMD, western region.
