Corporator keen on getting exemption from AAI approval
Echoing residents’ demands, NCP corporator Raju Shinde will table a proposal to exempt residents from seek-ing Airport Authority of India’s ( AAI) permission for redeveloping old colonies and row houses built by the City and Industrial Development Corporation ( Cidco) at the next general body meeting of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation ( NMMC)
In view of the upcoming international airport, the government had made it compulsory for residents of such structures to seek permission from the AAI.
This proposal may have repercussions on the redevelopment, of low income group (LIG) and middle income group ( MIG) IN Vashi, which may have to be put on held.
However, a number of 12-15 storey buildings have already been constructed in the node without obtaining permission from the AAI.
Taking into account residents’ demand, NCP corporator Raju Shinde said that he will raise the issue of scrapping the mandatory permission required from the AAI at the general body meeting to be held on November 19.
He expressed hope that if the proposal is passed at the meeting, it will pay the way for redevelopment of old buildings in Vashi.
“Vashi already has 15-20 storey buildings. Hence, I think it is futile to take permission from the AAI for reconstruction of old buildings meant for low income people in the node,” he said.
