I n an at­tempt to pre­vent com­muters from risk­ing their lives by cross­ing rail­way tracks, this Rs34.03crore sky­walk was built out­side the Kharghar sta­tion and was opened to pub­lic use on De­cem­ber 6, 2012.

Thanks to this state-of-the-art, cable strap sky­walk, thou­sands of Navi Mum­bai­ites no longer have to cross the dan­ger­ous SionPan­vel high­way and can walk to­wards Bhar­tiya Vidyapeeth Col­lege or Ut­sav Chowk.

The sky­walk is also the first one in the MMRDA re­gion to have an open es­ca­la­tor on the rail­way sta­tion side of the sky­walk.

This sky­walk has been b il b hN iM b i Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion ( NMMC) on the ThaneBe­la­pur High­way and con­nects the Ra­bale rail­way sta­tion to the MIDC area. Built in two years, it also

38- me­tre sky­walk cost the civic body Rs1.95 crore.

Kharghar’s cable strap sky­walk has been of great help to pedes­tri­ans on the Sion-Pan­vel high­way. NMMC’s sky­walk at Ra­bale, too, has helped re­duce ac­ci­dents.
