Panvel will get its own water tank by January, promise civic officials
PANVEL: Panvel residents can expect some relief from their water woes, as civic body officials have assured that the construction of the water tank at Hutatma memorial, which has been stuck for years, will be completed by January next year.
On completion, the water t ank will supply water to 15,000 Panvel households, said officials from the water supply department of the Panvel Municipal Council ( PMC).
At present, residents of Panvel are being supplied water from the PMC’s Dehrang dam, located on the foothills of Matheran.
A few years ago, the civic body had started water supply to the citizens through the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran ( MJP). However, the construction of the Hutatmaw at e r tank was stopped after a dispute between the MJP and the contractor. A petition was filed in the court in this regard. The issue has repeatedly figured during gen eral body meetings of the PMC.
Local shave often complained about i nadequate supply from the water tanks from which they get water now. Residents of Mominpada, Tapal naka, vegetable market and Kapadgalli are supplied water from the old tank behind the bus stop while people of Bhusar Mohalla, Rohiadas wada and the middle-class housing societies along MG Raod and Uran Road are provided water from the tank at Patel Mohalla.
To address complaints of low water supply from the people of these areas, the PMC has decided to finish the construction of the Hutatma water tank and make it operational at the earliest
