Vashi students aim for victory at national shooting tournament

VASHI: Four students f rom Father Agnel School, Vashi, h ave been selected for a national- level shooting tournament scheduled to be held in Balevadi, Pune, from December 3 to 7.

Six students from the school won several medals at t he zonal shooting competition held at Veer Savarkar Range, Dadar, took part in the statelevel shooting championship organised i n Nashik f rom November 21 to 23. Of them, Trisha Mukherjee, Sama Bathyacharya, Ipshita Yadav and Quirenrus Mendosa, were selected for the national- level tournament.

Trisha bagged gold in the air rifle (peep sight) under-19 event in Nashik, Sama won silver in the air rifle ( peep sight) under 17 event. Ipshita secured bronze in the open sight category in the under-17 years category and Quirenrus bagged bronze in the under- 14 peep sight category.

Suma Sherud, a renowned Olympian and Arjun award winner, along with assistant coach Ramesh Mali is training the four students for the tournament.

“I’m very proud of my students. They have worked hard to secure the medals,” said Mali. “Shooting needs a lot of concentration and that they’ve managed to study and attend practice sessions shows their dedication.”

A training session has been organised for the participants at the tournament from November 28 to December 2 in Pune.

Trisha, who won gold medal at the State l evel shooting event, said, “I’m very grateful to my school and coaches for providing me with the opportunity. All of us are working hard to win medals to make our school proud of us.”
