Sanpada man kills friend with sickle after drunken altercation
SANPADA: An altercation between two friends took a nasty turn, after one of two attacked the other with a sickle, killing him.
The incident took place on Wednesday night, when the victim Mahendra Bharti, 21, and the accused Gabbar alias Omkar, were attending a party at Matoshree Apartment at plot 65 in Seawood. The two, along with eight others, worked at a building site and the party had been thrown by the developer to celebrate the completion of the project.
“Omkar and two others drank a lot and then started vomited. It was then that Bharti, in jest, asked them why they had consumed so much liquor when they couldn’t handle it. This led to arguments between the drunk men and Bharti. However, Omkar pacified them,” said Ramesh Katkar, senior police inspector, Turbhe police.
Soon after, Bharti decided to leave the party mid- way to go home. He was leaving with a friend in an autorcikshaw when Omkar, too, joined them. The trio left the autorickshaw at sector 5 in Sanpada, near the fish market,” said Katkar.
Omkar then asked Bharti to wait, telling him that he would return soon. “When he returned, he was carrying a sickle and attacked Bharti on his face. With one blow, he cut off a side of Bharti’s face, causing him to die on the spot,” said the officer.
While Omkar fled from the spot, the friend who was accompanying them called the police.
“We are on the lookout for Omkar and are confident of ar resting him soon,” said Katkar.
This is the second such incident in Sanpada in the last few months, when a person has been killed over a trivial argument
