Illegal parking clogs Mafco market area
TURBHE: Illegal parking of heavy vehicles along the roads around Mafco, near the APMC market, is leading to led to heavy traffic jams and creating hurdles for pedestrians using the area.
To ease traffic congestion on the premises of the market, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has built a pay- and- park f acility and appointed contractors to run the facility. However, instead of parking vehicles there, motorists continue to park vehicles along the roads.
In a last- ditch attempt to decongest the area, the civic body has also widened the road from Tatyasaheb Kore Chowk to Warna Dairy to three lanes. Of them, two lanes are being used for parking heavy vehicles because of the lack of action by traffic personnel.
Assistant police inspector of APMC police station Dilip Thane said, “We have asked the authorities concerned to take steps to curb traffic jam on the premises of the markets.”
Residents have also demanded that the traffic police take immediate steps to decongest the area.
Thane said the traffic police will soon impose a ban on entry of vehicles to roads on the premises of markets because of repair work on the roads, which will help rein in the traffic jams.
