APMC’S POWER PROJECT YET TO START EVEN AFTER 2 YEARS

VASHI: More than two years after the power generation project was inaugurated on the premises of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Vashi on February 2, 2011, the project is yet to kick off.

According to sources, the APMC administration allegedly misled the deputy chief minister about the ownership of the plot where he had performed the bhoomipujan. However, the plot is under Cidco’s jurisdiction, which has refused to transfer it to APMC market committee.

Traders at the market are also displeased with the project site, which is located adjacent to high tension power supply line.

Instead of allocating the plot to APMC administration, the planning agency has now offered another plot to it. But the administration is yet to decide on it.

Since APMC has to spend lakhs in transporting the waste generated on its premises to the dumping ground, it decided to produce power from it on an adjoining plot.

Balasaheb Solaskar, chairman of APMC market committee, said “The power project has been stuck due to delay in transfer of plot to the market committee from Cidco. However, it will start soon.”
