Regional round for national crossword competitio­n held

NAVI MUMBAI: Jaipuriar School, Sanpada, organised the city round of the Sudha All India Inter-School Crossword Contest on Thursday.

Students of around 20 schools f rom Mumbai and Navi Mumbai participat­ed in the event, which is being held to commemorat­e the ‘ year of crossword’, as crossword puzzles have completed 100 years in 2013.

Winners f rom dif f erent regions will participat­e in the final to be held on December 14 in New Delhi.

The organisers of the event said that the idea behind a crossword contest was to make children realise that crosswords are not just incoherent words, but one of the most important tools for sharpening young minds.

“The event was of 3- hour duration and i ncluded t he crossword contest, a cultural show, result declaratio­n and the prize distributi­on ceremony. The winning team was declared as city champions and was selected for the nationals,” said a member of the organising committee
