Re­gional round for na­tional crossword com­pe­ti­tion held

NAVI MUM­BAI: Jaipuriar School, San­pada, or­gan­ised the city round of the Sudha All In­dia In­ter-School Crossword Con­test on Thurs­day.

Stu­dents of around 20 schools f rom Mum­bai and Navi Mum­bai par­tic­i­pated in the event, which is be­ing held to com­mem­o­rate the ‘ year of crossword’, as crossword puzzles have com­pleted 100 years in 2013.

Win­ners f rom dif f er­ent re­gions will par­tic­i­pate in the fi­nal to be held on De­cem­ber 14 in New Delhi.

The or­gan­is­ers of the event said that the idea be­hind a crossword con­test was to make chil­dren re­alise that cross­words are not just in­co­her­ent words, but one of the most im­por­tant tools for sharp­en­ing young minds.

“The event was of 3- hour du­ra­tion and i ncluded t he crossword con­test, a cul­tural show, re­sult dec­la­ra­tion and the prize dis­tri­bu­tion cer­e­mony. The win­ning team was de­clared as city cham­pi­ons and was se­lected for the na­tion­als,” said a mem­ber of the or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee
