Sanpada man who killed friend with a sickle arrested

SANPADA: The Turbhe police on Thursday arrested Omkar Yadav alias Gabbar, who had killed his friend with a sickle after a drunken altercation on Wednesday night.

“Around 11pm on Thursday, Yadav was s een at Kopar Khairane. We arrested him from near the Kopar Khairane creek,” said Ramesh Katkar, senior police inspector, Turbhe.

Mahendra Bharti, 21, was killed by Yadav, after they left a party that the two were attending at Matoshree Apartment on plot 65, Seawoods. During the party, Yadav and two others has a lot to drink and started vomiting. Bharti, in jest, asked them why they chose to drink if they couldn’t handle alcohol. Following this, when they were on their way home, Yadav killed him with a sickle.

Yadav was present in the court on Friday and has been remanded in police custody for five days.
