Labour officer caught red-handed while accepting ` 50,000 bribe

PANVEL : Officials of Navi Mumbai’s anti- cor ruption bureau on Tuesday arrested a labour officer for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs50,000 from a factory owner.

According to ACB officials, the labour officer Narayan Bhoir, 52, had visited the complainan­t’s rubber factory at Khalapur last week and reportedly found norms were being violated in the factory.

Bhoir demanded cash from the complainan­t to not take action against him.

“Subsequent­ly, when the complainan­t approached us, we asked him to do as Bhoir told him to and laid a trap to arrest the accused” said Vivek Joshi, deputy SP of Navi Mumbai ACB.

“We arrested him red-hand- ed accepting the cash near a shopping outlet at Panvel on Tuesday,” he added.

An FIR has been registered against the accused with the Panvel city police station. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
