VASHI: An autism aware­ness event was or­gan­ised by Sun­shine School for dif­fer­ently-abled and Fo­rum for Autism on Thurs­day to mark World Autism Aware­ness Day.

Autis­tic chil­dren, their par­ents, pae­di­a­tri­cians, psy­chol­o­gists, speech ther­a­pists, and spe­cial ed­u­ca­tors be­gan a walk from Sun­shine School, Vashi, in the evening. They walked till Shivaji Chowk, where a street play was per­formed. Songs were sung and fly­ers dis­trib­uted to passersby dur­ing the rally, which ended at Inor­bit mall, Vashi.

Paramita Mazumder, prin­ci­pal of the school, said, “The play de­picted the theme of ac­cep­tance and in­clu­sion, which is of great im­por­tance. The gen­eral public should help re­duce so­cial stigma and pro­vide op­por­tu­ni­ties to th­ese chil­dren. It gave an in­sight into the signs and symptoms of autism.”
