VASHI: The police were left flummoxed on Wednesday when they arrested a person for allegedly stealing money from a woman, and the accused later turned out to be her husband. Deputy commissioner of police (crime), Suresh Mengde, who was passing through MGM Hospital area in Vashi on Wednesday afternoon, stopped his vehicle after hearing a woman scream.

She said she had been robbed. Mengde asked police personnel accompanying him to rush towards the direction pointed out by the woman and nab the accused.

After a brief chase, the police caught the man along with the stolen money. The police were surprised to find that the man was her husband.

The woman informed the police that she had a fall out with her husband over some issue. Hence, he had snatched money from her and fled.

“I was left with no option but to scream to get my money back,” she told the police.

However, later she appealed to the police to let her husband go. The issue was resolved at the Vashi police station.
