KOPAR KHAIRANE: At a time when t he Navi Mumbai po­lice claim to have taken ev­ery pos­si­ble step to en­sure peace­ful civic polls in the city, a 26-year-old man was ar­rested with a coun­try- made pis­tol, three live car­tridges and $40 on Thurs­day.

The po­lice de­tained Anand Pa­tel near the rail­way sta­tion around 1.15pm. They ar­rested him when they found the firearm and notes on him. He is a res­i­dent of Ra­bale MIDC.

“It is still not clear from where he got the pis­tol and the notes and his mo­tive. We are try­ing to find out if he was plan­ning to sell the pis­tol to some­one in the area,” said Ashok Naik, se­nior po­lice in­spec­tor. Pa­tel has been booked un­der rel­e­vant sec­tions of the IPC and In­dian Arms Act.
