Staff bunking poll duty to face strict action
CBD BELAPUR: Strict action will be taken against government officials who fail to report to duty, state election commissioner JS Saharia said on Thursday.
“Action will be taken against staff bunking election duty,” said Saharia, during a meeting with Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor poration chief Dinesh Waghmare, Aurangabad Municipal Corporation chief Prakash Mahajan, Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation chief Govind Rathod to discuss election preparations.
The state election commissioner, who has taken stock of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Cor poration, Aurang abad Municipal Corporation, Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation elections, has asked public servants deputed on election duty to give their best to ensure hasslefree and transparent elections to the civic bodies.
“The civic body elections should be held in a smooth and transparent manner at par with the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections The state election com mission has been entrusted with the task of conducting local body elections in manner that is at par with the ones conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The Supreme Court has clarified this while pronouncing the judgment in the Kisansingh Tomar vs Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation case,” said Saharia.
The state election commissioner has asked those deployed at sensitive wards and polling booths to stay vigilant to avoid untoward incidents. He has also asked them to ensure strict implementation of the model code of conduct
