Staff bunk­ing poll duty to face strict ac­tion

CBD BELAPUR: Strict ac­tion will be taken against gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials who fail to re­port to duty, state elec­tion com­mis­sioner JS Sa­haria said on Thurs­day.

“Ac­tion will be taken against staff bunk­ing elec­tion duty,” said Sa­haria, dur­ing a meet­ing with Navi Mumbai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor po­ra­tion chief Di­nesh Waghmare, Au­rangabad Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion chief Prakash Ma­ha­jan, Va­sai-Vi­rar Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion chief Govind Rathod to dis­cuss elec­tion prepa­ra­tions.

The state elec­tion com­mis­sioner, who has taken stock of the Navi Mumbai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor po­ra­tion, Au­rang abad Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion, Va­sai-Vi­rar Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion elec­tions, has asked public ser­vants de­puted on elec­tion duty to give their best to en­sure has­sle­free and trans­par­ent elec­tions to the civic bod­ies.

“The civic body elec­tions should be held in a smooth and trans­par­ent man­ner at par with the As­sem­bly and Lok Sabha elec­tions The state elec­tion com mission has been en­trusted with the task of con­duct­ing lo­cal body elec­tions in man­ner that is at par with the ones con­ducted by the Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of In­dia (ECI). The Supreme Court has clar­i­fied this while pro­nounc­ing the judg­ment in the Kisans­ingh To­mar vs Ahmed­abad Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion case,” said Sa­haria.

The state elec­tion com­mis­sioner has asked those de­ployed at sen­si­tive wards and polling booths to stay vig­i­lant to avoid un­to­ward in­ci­dents. He has also asked them to en­sure strict im­ple­men­ta­tion of the model code of con­duct
