15 ARRESTED FOR GAMBLING IN KOPAR KHAIRANE
KOPAR KHAIRANE: Around 15 people, including two owners of video parlours, have been arrested for gambling at Kopar Khairane on Wednesday afternoon. The police have also seized property worth Rs14.5 lakh, including Rs1.15 lakh cash, from the accused.
Acting on a tip- off the DCP (zone 1) squad conducted raids in three video parlours at sectors 2 and 6 and made the arrests.
The arrested owners have been identified as Santosh Shetty, 33, and Harischandra Shetty, 35. The owner of the third parlour, however, managed to flee.
“The owners would take money from their customers and gamble it with different video games, turning their video parlours into gambling dens,” said police sub-inspector Rohan Bagade of Kopar Khairane police station.
“We have seized 50 video game machines, 17 computers and Rs1.15 lakh in cash from them,” he said.
The police have booked the suspects under sections 4 and 5 of the Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act.
“More such raids are likely to be conducted in other parts of the city,” another police officer from the DCP office said, requesting anonymity
