LOCALS ON HOLIDAY COULD IMPACT POLL OUTCOME
VASHI: Scores of citizens who are heading to their native places for a summer break have left candidates worried, as the mass exodus could affect the turnout in the civic elections on April 22.
An NCP l eader, requesting anonymity, said, “Of the 111 seats, 18 are stronghold of Mathadi voters. Several workers move to their native places during summer, which could affect the poll results.”
A BJP leader on condition of anonymity said, “Akshay Tritiya will be celebrated a day before the polls on April 21, when marriages will be held on a large scale in Gujarat. Scores of residents, mostly comprising members of the Gujarati community, who have a significant presence in APMC market, will travel to their native place. They will not be present in the city on voting day which will lower the voting percentage in the civic polls.”
