LO­CALS ON HOL­I­DAY COULD IM­PACT POLL OUT­COME

VASHI: Scores of cit­i­zens who are head­ing to their na­tive places for a sum­mer break have left can­di­dates wor­ried, as the mass ex­o­dus could af­fect the turnout in the civic elec­tions on April 22.

An NCP l eader, re­quest­ing anonymity, said, “Of the 111 seats, 18 are strong­hold of Math­adi vot­ers. Sev­eral work­ers move to their na­tive places dur­ing sum­mer, which could af­fect the poll re­sults.”

A BJP leader on con­di­tion of anonymity said, “Ak­shay Tri­tiya will be cel­e­brated a day be­fore the polls on April 21, when mar­riages will be held on a large scale in Gu­jarat. Scores of res­i­dents, mostly com­pris­ing mem­bers of the Gu­jarati com­mu­nity, who have a sig­nif­i­cant pres­ence in APMC mar­ket, will travel to their na­tive place. They will not be present in the city on vot­ing day which will lower the vot­ing per­cent­age in the civic polls.”
