Mhatre, belonging to a non-political family, has carved a niche for herself in city politics. After her tenure as corporator, she became the NCP’s first woman president and then, member of legislative council.

She left the NCP to join the BJP just before the 2014 Assembly elections. Manda, belonging to Agri-Koli community, was elected from Belapur Assembly seat on a BJP ticket and is the first Agri woman MLA.
