Cong developed Navi Mumbai: Ashok Chavan
VASHI: It is the Congress, and not the Nationalist Congress party (NCP), which is responsible for Navi Mumbai’s development.
This is what the state Congress president Ashok Chavan said while addressing a party workers’ meet at Vishnudas Bhave auditorium in Vashi on Saturday.
“Since the urban development ministry was with the Congress when it was in power in state, it is the Congress and not the NCP that is responsible for the development of Navi Mumbai,” said Chavan.
“We had sanctioned Rs1,500 crore for the city’s development. It was during the Congress tenure that the 2.5 FSI for dilapidated structures was approved,” said the former chief minister, while releasing the party manifesto.
“The Centre sanctioned Rs180 crore for slum development under the BSUP scheme however the ruling party in the NMMC, the NCP, did not implement it. The funds had to be returned to the Centre,” he said. Chavan slammed the NCP saying the problems of traffic and parking in the city are a shame.
“The NCP has no time to work for the poor and hence they should not be given another opportunity to rule Navi Mumbai,” he said.
Attacking the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, Chavan said: “The Shiv Sena-BJP did not have time for bhoomipujan of Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial on his birth anniversary. The BJP has stalled the food security scheme of the Congress.”
