CLOSE EN­COUN­TERS, BIG­GEST MAR­GINS

Shashikala Patil of NCP, con­test­ing from ward 72 of Turbhe, won by a mar­gin of just 6 votes against BJP’s sit­ting cor­po­ra­tor Vi­jaya Gharat. While Patil bagged 1,717 votes, Gharat se­cured 1,711 votes. Deputy mayor Ashok Gawde es­caped by a whisker, win­ning by just 3 votes in Nerul’s ward 109 against Sameer Bag­wan of Shiv Sena. Gawde, an NCP can­di­date, got 1,051 votes while Bag­wan se­cured 1,048 votes. The big­gest mar­gin of victory went to for­mer Shiv Sena city chief Vi­jay Chougule in ward 7 of Chinch­pada area in Airoli. Chougule, whose in­flu­ence in the area is well known, se­cured 3,107 votes against just 393 votes of Bhaskar More, an NCP can­di­date. The victory mar­gin is a whop­ping 2,714 votes.
