Hit-and-run: Biker, 13-year- old son killed on highway
A 44-year-old man from Kharghar and his minor son died in a road accident after the bike they were travelling on, was hit by an unknown vehicle at Taloja on Thursday.
The accident took place before 7.45am on Panvel - Mumbra highway.
According to the police, Punjab Matangale and his 13- year- old son Mahadev had gone to Taloja for some work in the morning. They were hit by the vehicle just a few yards away from a hotel on the busy road.
“They sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. They were rushed to a nearby hospital by some local residents, but were declared dead on arrival,” said a police officer from the Taloja police station.
“Punjab’s Aadhaar card showed that he was a resident of Aurangabad. However, we later learnt that he stayed at Owe peth at Kharghar with his family,” he said.
The police later handed over the bodies to their family after the post-mortem at Panvel rural hospital.
“No one saw the registration number of the vehicle that hit the victims. We have registered a case under sections 279, 427, 304a of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC) and section 184 and 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act. We hope to solve the case soon,” said another police officer.
I n another accident on Wednesday night, a 26- yearold youth died at Airoli. Shivaji Wakhode, a resident of Sector 2, was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
He was admitted to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) hospital where he died later.
