Man arrested for circulating ex-girlfriend’s video on phone

NAVI MUMBAI: A 25-year-old man, who allegedly uploaded an obscene video of his former girlfriend on a phone messaging app, was arrested on Saturday. The accused also mentioned the woman’s name after sending the video.

The 20- year- old woman’s younger brother learnt about the video and informed the police.

The police are still investigating to ascertain whether the woman in the video is the same woman.

According to the police, Ajay Patil, a resident of Morale village near Panvel, was in a relationship with the woman three years ago.

The woman’s father opposed the relationship and so she broke up with Patil.

“The woman’s marriage has been fixed and the wedding is on May 5. Probably to take revenge and to create problems, the accused on Friday night sent the video to a group of 100 people on the messaging app,” said Vishnu Redekar, senior police inspector of NRI police station.

The police have booked the accused under sections 292 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 67 and 67a of the IT Act. He was produced before the judicial court on Saturday and has been remanded in police custody till April 29. The police have not found any criminal record against him so far.

“We are still not sure if the woman in the video is the victim. Investigations are on,” Redekar said.
