Four dead af­ter SUV hits truck on Mumbai-Pune Ex­press­way

NAVI MUMBAI/PUNE: Four peo­ple were killed and eight oth­ers in­jured af­ter their SUV crashed into a truck on the Mum­baiPune Ex­press­way 45km from Pune, around 5am on Satur­day.

The po­lice said the vic­tims were res­i­dents of Kalam­boli in Navi Mumbai and were on their way back to the city af­ter at­tend­ing a wed­ding at Latur, when the ac­ci­dent took place.

“The SUV’s driver, Shakil Faruque Bi­radar, tried to over­take the truck, but lost con­trol and hit its rear. In the im­pact of the col­li­sion, four peo­ple died on the spot and the eight oth­ers in the ve­hi­cle were in­jured,” said MS Nim­barkar, as­sis­tant po­lice in­spec­tor, Badgaon Ma­bal po­lice sta­tion.

Some mo­torists in­formed the po­lice con­trol room and took the vic­tims to Lok­manya hos­pi­tal at Nigdi. The four dead were iden- ti­fied as Kasin Kader Pa­tel, 76, Hamida Kasin Pa­tel, 64, Farida Mu­jaber Pa­tel, 35, and Ir­fan Ah­mad Bi­radar, 12.
