3 video parlours in Vashi raided, 26 held for gambling
VASHI: Around 26 people, including the owner of one of the three video parlours, were arrested for gambling at Vashi on Wednesday. The police have also seized property worth Rs18.05 lakh, including Rs2.18 lakh cash, from the accused.
Acting on a tip- off, the DCP (zone 1) squad conducted raids at the video parlours at Sector 2 and made the arrests. The arrested owner has been identified as Abid Mansuri, 43, owner of Welcome Video Game. “The owners of the other two parlours got to know about the raid and fled. We hope to arrest them soon,” said a police officer from the DCP squad.
“The owner would take money from customers and gamble it with different video games, turning their video parlours into gambling dens,” said police sub-inspector Rohan Bagade of the DCP squad. “We have seized 38 video game machines, 40 computers and Rs2.18 lakh cash from them,” he added.
The police have booked the suspects under sections 4 and 5 of the Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act. They will be produced before the juridical court on Thursday.
Shahaji Umap, deputy commissioner of police (zone 1), said, “We conduct raids when we get to know about the illegal business. We don’t want the culprits to turn video parlours into gambling dens. More such raids are likely to be conducted in other parts of the city.”
