VASHI: Five days after a minor was allegedly raped by a Turbhe resident, who had lured her with a job, the police arrested the man from Hanuman Nagar on October 30. The police are on the look-out for a woman accomplice of the accused.

Vijay Bansode, 27, a painter by profession, was arrested following a tip-off received by the police.

According to deputy commissioner of police Shahji Umap, on October 23, Bansode had told the 15-year-old victim and her friend at the victim’s residence he could get them a housekeeping job through a recruitment agency.

“The two girls along with three other women, then, accompanied Bansode for a job interview to the agency,” said Umap at a press conference on Wednesday.

Bansode took Rs1500 from the women as cost for uniform and copies of their identification and pan card. He asked the victim and her friend to wait at Airoli railway station and the other women to wait at the gate of Mindspace company.

He then took the two girls to Vashi where he asked the victim’s friend to wait at a bus stop, while he took the victim under the pretense of preparing her biodata.

“On the way they met a woman who offered water to the victim, who fell semi-conscious after that. Bansode took the victim to a lodge in Sector 11, Vashi, where he threatened to kidnap and rape the victim’s friend. He then raped the victim,” said Umap.

Bansode took the victim back to her friend and took away her mobile phone worth Rs 1,200, her gold earrings worth Rs5,800 in return for jobs. He then fled the spot.

The victim, a resident of Sector 1, Airoli, registered a case on October 24.

“The accused has confessed to his crime and we have also recovered the articles he had taken away,” said Umap.
