Louis Berger row: State wants details from civic bodies, infra agencies
MUMBAI: The state government has asked civic bodies and infrastructure agencies to give it details of projects allotted to Louis Berger and the fees paid to it. The order follows allegations that the New Jersey-based construction management company bribed officials to bag contracts in various countries, including India.
CM Devendra Fadnavis appointed a committee last month headed by additional chief secretary (home) KP Bakshi to check for irregularities or cases of bribery while appointing the company as the project management consultant (PMC) for various projects.
During the committee’s first meeting recently, Bakshi asked Cidco, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Autho-rity (MMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and the civic bodies for details of their projects, the extent of the firm’s involvement and the consultation fees they paid to the firm. MADC and MIDC clarified in their first meeting there was no involvement of the firm in any of their projects. Cidco and MMRDA have appointed the firm for some of their ongoing infrastructure projects — Cidco has appointed the firm as the consultant for the Navi Mumbai airport, and MMRDA for its Metro projects.
