Cap­tured in frames: Life of Babasa­heb Ambed­kar

CBD BE­LA­PUR: The city ob­served Con­sti­tu­tion Day on Thurs­day with a host of pro­grammes con­ducted by Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) and Pan­vel Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (PMC).

The NMMC has planned a se­ries of pro­grammes spread over three days to mark the day the Con­sti­tu­tion of In­dia was adopted by the Con­stituent As­sem­bly 66 years ago.

An ex­hi­bi­tion of rare pho­to­graphs on the life of Babasa­heb Ambed­kar, the fa­ther of In­dian Con­sti­tu­tion, is be­ing held at the Ch­ha­tra­p­ati Shivaji Ma­haraj Chowk, Vashi.

For­mer min­is­ter Ganesh Naik and mayor Sud­hakar Son­awane in­au­gu­rated the pro­gramme on Thurs­day. MLA San­deep Naik, deputy mayor Av­inash Lad and mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Di­nesh Wagh­mare were also present.

“Thanks to the Con­sti­tu­tion given to us by Ambed­kar, In­dia is the most pop­u­lous democ­racy in the world,” said Son­awane. “It is im­por­tant that there is more aware­ness on the Con­sti­tu­tion amongst the youth.”

“Ev­ery cit­i­zen needs to know the Con­sti­tu­tion’s pre­am­ble which speaks of jus­tice, lib­erty, equal­ity and fra­ter­nity. Th­ese are the core val­ues in­grained in the con­sti­tu­tion by Ambed­kar,” said Wagh­mare.

On Novem­ber 28, a spe­cial pro­gramme has been or­gan­ised at Vish­nudas Bhave au­di­to­rium at 11 am. Econ­o­mist, lit­ter­a­teur and for­mer mem­ber of plan­ning com­mis­sion Dr Naren­dra Jad­hav will speak on the oc­ca­sion.

“The lec­ture by Jad­hav will help us understand the value of our Con­sti­tu­tion bet­ter,” said NMMC so­cial wel­fare and slum im­prove­ment com­mit­tee chair­per­son Monica Patil.

At Pan­vel, San­vin­d­han Gau­rav Di­was pro­gramme was or­gan­ised at Ambed­kar Me­mo­rial by the PMC. Apart from MLA Prashant Thakur, Pan­vel Tehsil­dar Deepak Akde and coun­cil­lors, a large num­ber of res­i­dents were in at­ten­dance.

“There is a need to spread aware­ness about the im­por­tance and sig­nif­i­cance of our Con­sti­tu­tion,” said Thakur.
