Panel formed to study Panvel civic body plan
PANVEL: In a major push to the formation of a Panvel municipal corporation, the state government has now formed a committee to study the plan and submit a report within a month.
Panvel is currently under the jurisdiction of Panvel municipal council (PMC) which has expanded its jurisdiction to around 900 hectare (ha). Of this, around 500ha is in City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) area while 363ha in Panvel city is under PMC jurisdiction.
“It was around 25 years ago that the proposal for the formation of a Panvel municipal corporation was put forth. The state government had issued a notification. The urban development minister had surveyed the area and prepared a proposal,” said a PMC official on condition of anonymity.
“There are issues of roads, flyovers, water, recreation centres, solid waste management and other such infrastructure in Cidco jurisdiction areas. There is a need for a planning authority that will work on development of the area,” said the official.
PMC has put forth a proposal to the state government to include Panvel, Kamothe, Kharghar, Kalamboli and Taloja industrial in the municipal corporation’s jurisdiction.
