CBD BELAPUR: From special patrolling to campaign against drink driving, the Navi Mumbai cops are all set to ensure your New Year festivitie­s remain safe.

The traffic police have started a crackdown on drink driving in the city. They have also deployed personnel at vital locations in Navi Mumbai and Panvel. “In view of the rise in number of accidents, we have initiated a campaign against drink driving,” said Arvind Salve, deputy police commission­er (traffic). “We will also deploy personnel to ensure there are no traffic snarls on December 31.”

“We will leave no stone unturned to maintain law and order on the New Year’s Eve. Hotels and malls in the city have been asked to put in place adequate security arrangemen­t,” said Prabhat Ranjan, Navi Mumbai police commission­er.

Salve has also urged residents to avoid driving when drunk.

A few celebritie­s own farmhouses at Panvel, which is located along the Mumbai-Pune highway and Mumbai-Goa highway, and throw parties there. Also, Panvel’s proximity to the

national highways and serene environmen­t have made it a great place to celebrate, as people from Pune, Goa and other parts of the state can easily travel to the city. In the past, there have been instances of drunk youngsters creating a ruckus. So, the city police are gearing up to tackle such situations.

“Strict police bandobast will

be enforced in the city from December 31 morning to ensure peaceful celebratio­ns. We have initiated steps to keep strict vigil,” said Ranjan.

“The personnel are trying to ensure the celebratio­ns are peaceful. Check posts are being set up at vital locations. They will also monitor the CCTV footage.”
