TAXES INCREASE IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR: WAGHMARE

CBD Belapur: Municipal commissioner Dinesh Waghmare does not seem to be in any mood for another confrontation with the ruling NCP in the NMMC. After the smart city fiasco which the NCP-ruled NMMC rejected, Waghmare who had earlier said that he will consider using powers wrested in him to overrule the general body on the tax hike issue, now says he has no such plans.

Waghmare reiterated that there is a need to increase taxes in the city to enable the civic body to take up bigger projects. He, however, indicated that in the light of the opposition by the NCP, the administration is helpless.

Waghmare said: “We in the administration feel that increasing tax is the need of the hour. It will help us take up new projects in the city.”

He added, “The proposal however needs to be approved by the general body where there is opposition to it.”
