NEW PANVEL: Continuing its crackdown against illegal structures, City and Industrial Development Corporation ( Cidco) undertook a demolition drive in various sectors of Khanda Colony and New Panvel ( East) on Tuesday.

The Controller of Unauthorised Constructions ( CUC) ( South) department of Cidco demolished 10 of the 578 illegal structures reported in the media.

“These structures were constructed on Cidco land without land title and development permission from the corporation,” said Mohan Ninawe, senior public relations officer of Cidco.

“The demolition drive was carried out smoothly in spite of strong opposition from Shiv Sena workers in Sector 2 at Plot 36 B, which is reserved for a garden,” said Ninawe.

He said, “The work of development of t he garden was inaugurated by Sanjay Bhatia, vice- chairman and managing director of Cidco recently. Some Shiv Sena workers had opposed the demolition of a small structure, which delayed the garden’s development. An FIR will be lodged against them shortly.”

These structures were constructed on Cidco land without land title and development permission from the municipal corporation.
