Police reward their ‘friends’ for helping them curb crimes
VASHI: Helping the city police has its rewards. Ask the ‘Police Mitr’ who were f elicitated by the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate on Thursday at the Cidco Exhibition Centre in Vashi.
‘Police Mitr’ are citizens who helped the police in their duty. The speakers at the felicitation ceremony stressed on the need for public cooperation and the benefits accrued from this cooperation.
While certificates and bouquets were presented to those who had gone out of their way to help the police, the police mitr were also guided on ways they can help the police further.
“To ensure that the law and order is maintained in the city, it is necessary for the residents to work closely with the police. If citizens share information with the police and cooperate with them, crime can certainly be brought under control,” said Thane guardian minister Eknath Shinde.
MLA Manda Mhatre said, “It is for the first time that such a programme is being held in the city and we need to congratulate the police for recognising the efforts of these citizens.”
She said, “We have a good police team in city that is quick to respond in times of emergencies. I myself had given information to police about a girl who had been kidnapped and sold to a brothel in Agra and the police managed to get her back in time.”
“There is a need for increasing the remuneration of police informers, which will further help the police,” said Mhatre
“With cybercrime growing in the city, we residents request the police to be alert. We are ready to help in every way. It is the duty of every citizen to be a Police Mitr and we are glad that some of us are doing more than that,” said Narendra Patil, member of legislative council.
Thanking the police mitr for their help, police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan said, “Police Mitr help the police in a lot of day- to- day activities. This is a small gesture from us appreciating their excellent and invaluable work.”
