Road-widening work at Digha waits for approval
DIGHA: The delay in rehabilitation of houses and shops along the Thane Belapur road in Digha is preventing the road widening work in the area.
Six houses and 31 shops that are preventing the road widen- ing work were issued notices six months ago by NMMC. Houses and shops for them have been constructed in Sathenagar for their rehabilitation. Since they have not been allotted, the roadwidening work has not begun.
TB road is an important road in the city that was constructed to reduce time and distance between Navi Mumbai and Thane.
While the road has proved a boon for motorists who have been saving time and money wasted on fuel, the Digha area has long been a problem due to the bottleneck created there. The presence of the shops and houses there is preventing the road widening in the initial stage as they went to court over the rehabilitation issue. The area was transferred by MIDC to Navi Mumbai. The land belongs to MIDC and hence it was acquired, NMMC has stated in its notice.
Deputy municipal commissioner ( property) Dadasaheb Chabukswar said, “The property department received a report on it two months ago. We have sent the proposal to the state government. Since the approval has not yet come from general body, the matter has been pending.” Informed Chabukswar, “We will table the resolution in the next general body meeting and get it approved.”
