SENIOR CITIZEN RUN OVER BY TRAIN AT NERUL

NAVI MUMBAI: A 65-year-old man was mowed down by train on habour line between Seawoods and Nerul railway station on Wednesday.

According to the railway police Meimun Nasiruddin Ansari, a resident of Belapur was crossing the tracks around 9.55 am when he was hit by a Panvel bound train. He suffered severe injuries at various parts of his body and he died on the spot.

“We learnt about the incident from the station manager and rushed him to NMMC hospital. But he was declared brought dead there. We later delivered the body to his family after postmortem was conducted in the hospital,” said one GRP official.

According to the railway sources, as many as 252 people died in the satellite city while crossing railway tracks or falling from trains in 2015 as opposed to 205 deaths registered in 2014.

“Normally people want ‘short cuts’ to reach the platforms or other side of the tracks. For example, 55- 60 accidents take place every year between the Belapur tunnel and the flyover that goes towards Uran,” said one official from Nerul railway station.

“The areas near Agroli village and Konkan Bhavan also see frequent accidents. Most of the accidents take place at night when people face problems in realizing the movement of the trains,” he added.

In another accident at Thane, senior citizen, riding a two-wheeler, died after he met with an accident in Kalyan on Wednesday.

His two-wheeler was hit by a truck who took a sudden turn.

The deceased was identified as Harkishore Ramlal Mathur, 65, and a resident of Godrej Hill in Kalyan.

He was going towards Kalyan station from Kolshewadi. He was declared dead at hospital in Kalyan.
