Sacked from Thane store, three youths attempt robbery

THANE: Three youths, belonging to well to do families, were arrested for breaking into a store at a mall at Kasarwadav­li on Wednesday.

The three are residents of Thane. They have been identified as Kaustub Vilas Guram, 21, a resident of Vasant Vihar, Manav Govind Patil,21, a resident of Happy valley complex and Anand Singh Halpatti, 24, a resident of Dongri pada.

The three, who used to work at the store, were sacked a few months ago. The store sells branded clothes, sportswear and sports equipment.

On Wednesday, they broke into the store and stole goods worth Rs69,163.

The three had stuffed bags with goods were about to escape when an employee opened the store. When he saw goods missing, he found something fishy.

He went in to see the three youth about to run.

He alerted the other employees who were standing outside the stor and called up the police station, said a police officer from Kasarwadav­li police station.

Investigat­ion officer, Anand Kargutkar from Kasarwadav­li police station, said, “We have started the investigat­ion. We learnt that the three youth are from good family but we are yet to learn the motive behind the crime.”

The police said that the three entered the store from behind by climbing the pipe. “We suspect the three to have entered the store in the night and they stayed there till morning. As they were about to escape, they were caught. We produced them in court today and they are in police custody,” said Kargutkar.

They have been booked under section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
