TMC to launch water tax portal in two months TAX TARGET
THANE: To bring transparency in tax collection, the Thane Municipal Corporation will facilitate online payment of water taxes.
The corporation will start the facility in the next two months. Last year, it started online payment of property tax.
The delay in payment of water tax has affected the tax collection. With online payment facility, paying taxes will be easier and faster.
“We will also get information on tax defaulters if the payment is done online. We will map each property in the city. Taxpayers will have to click on their building to get the information on the balanced tax. Residents no longer have to stand in long queues at the ward offices to pay water tax. The entire procedure will be completed in two months,” said a civic official, requesting anonymity.
He said the portal will also make it simple for the civic officials to identify tax defaulters.
The TMC received good response for the online property tax collection portal, wherein properties are similarly mapped on the city map and residents only have to click on their property to pay the tax.
More than 21,000 consumers paid their property tax online while the corporation generated a revenue of Rs10 crore from them. Residents can pay their water bills through smartphones using their credit or debit card once the portal is operational. They can get the application for the same on the civic website www.thanecity.gov.in.
We will also get information on tax defaulter if the payment is done online. For the online payment we will map each property on Thane city map. Taxpayers will have to click on their building to get the information on the balanced tax.
