India fumes at China for blocking terrorist tag for JeM chief Azhar
WASHINGTON: India has said it is disappointed by China’s decision to block its move to designate Masood Azhar as a terrorist, but Beijing backed its veto saying there wasn’t enough to blacklist the JeM chief.
On Thursday, China placed a “technical hold” on the move to designate the Jaish-e-Mohammed leader under a Security Council resolution. It had adopted a similar stand in the past to block action against Azhar by India.
“We find it incomprehensible that while the Pakistan- based JeM was listed in UN Security Council Committee established under UNSCR 1267/1989/2253 as far back as 2001 for its well known terror activities and links to the al Qaeda, the designation of the group’s main leader, financier and motivator has been put on a technical hold,” India said in a statement.
