Garden plot at Sanpada lies unused, encroached by slums

A plot in Sanpada, reserved for a garden, has been encroached upon by slums.

Cidco had handed it over to the NMMC in 2007.

The plot at Sector 10 is spread over an area of 11,212 sqm. Since the garden has not been developed in the past 8, a number of shanties have come up on the plot.

Local corporator Richa Patil has demanded that the NMMC administration immediately start work on the garden.

The NMMC has long been complaining that Cidco is delaying the transfer of hundreds of plots for social amenities. But, the plots already handed over to it are not being used properly.

In Sanpada, a garden has been converted into a ground where there is encroachment by a temple, by a police station and it has become an illegal parking lot.

Plot number 41 at Sector10 was transferred to the NMMC on November 30, 2007. However, no development had taken place in the last eight years.

The plot located opposite Jui Nagar railway station has become a victim of encroachment. In a corner of the plot, around 20 to 25 shanties have come up. On the other side, debris are being dumped. The residents of Millennium Tower and those living in residential areas opposite Juinagar railway station do not have any garden.

Patil has written several letters on the issue to the administration.

Patil said, “There is not a single garden in the area for the residents to spend some quality time. When we have the plot, why is there such a long delay?

She said, “I have demanded that a garden be developed here at the earliest. I have also given details of the encroachment on the land to the administration.”

Patil added, “I have written to municipal commissioner Dinesh Waghmare on the issue and asked for a proposal to be prepared for the garden.”

The NMMC officials said they are looking into the issue.
