The proposed PMC is
expected to include 66 of the 173 villages in Panvel taluka, eight City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO)developed nodes and Panvel city
The state government had formed a study committee headed by Konkan divisional commissioner, Tanaji Satre, to prepare a plan for the establishment of the proposed corporation
The committee is
studying how the corporation should be, its geographical boundaries, financial sources and expenses on basic amenities and infrastructure. It will also take stock of water supply
The residents of Panvel
city at present pay only property tax to the municipal council. Those in the rural areas pay their house tax. Once the new municipal corporation comes into being, residents of Panvel will have to pay various taxes. These include, apart from property tax, local body tax, stamp duty, premium tax, development tax among others.
