2 killed in separate hit-and-runs in Thane

Two people died in separate accidents in Thane in two days. In both cases, the police have lodged a case against unidentifi­ed people who fled from the accident.

On Thursday around 7.30am, Naresh Jethalal Sharda, 51, a businessma­n from Majiwada, had come to Naupada for some work. While he was returning home on his two-wheeler, an unknown vehicle hit Naresh from behind. He was taken to the Thane civil hospital where he was declared dead owing to internal injuries.

“A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC,” said a police officer from Naupada police station.

In another accident, a 55-yearold woman was hit by a vehicle on Wednesday. The accident took place near Wagle Estate, Thane, around 10am. During preliminar­y investigat­ion, it was found that the woman was mentally challenged. She was taken to the Thane civil hospital where she was declared dead.”

A police officer from Thane commission­erate, said, “In both accidents, we are going through CCTV footage to trace the vehicle driver who fled away from the spot.”
