Step out in the sun, have an ad­ven­ture

From na­ture trails to pot­tery, rap­pelling to hik­ing, or­gan­is­ers are go­ing all out to con­duct unique work­shops for chil­dren

If you want your chil­dren to ex­pe­ri­ence the sum­mer in­stead of whiling away time in front of a com­puter this va­ca­tion, send them on an ad­ven­ture trip.

Sev­eral or­gan­is­ers in the city are con­duct­ing sum­mer camps. Vashi- based Dhamaal Kids is or­gan­is­ing its an­nual sum­mer camp at Igat­puri which has many ad­ven­ture ac­tiv­i­ties on the cards.

For be­gin­ners - chil­dren in the age group of six to 14 years­ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude na­ture trails, pot­tery, and land­scape paint­ing among other ac­tiv­i­ties.

The camps will be held in four batches which be­gin from April 19 to May 11. For chil­dren be­tween eight to 16 years, ac­tiv­i­ties such as rap­pelling and hik­ing are sched­uled from April 24 to 27.

“On the first day, we will have light in­door ac­tiv­i­ties and on the re­main­ing two days, we will have thrilling ac­tiv­i­ties such as rap­pelling and hik­ing among oth­ers,” said Ar­chana Kshemkalya­ni, founder of Dhamaal Kids.

A se­ries of camps by Thanebased Trail­blaz­ers is a must for you if you are look­ing for an adren­a­line rush. Three camps have been or­gan­ised at Kar­nala, Ut­tarak­hand and Dehradun for dif­fer­ent age groups.

The first camp, Foot­loose, from May 7 to 10 is for chil­dren in the age group of eight to 12 years. The other two camps, Pathfinder and Voy­age, is for chil­dren be­tween the ages 12 and 18. Pathfinder will be held from May 22 to May 27 and Voy­age is sched­uled from May 22 to May 29.

“Our camp for the first-timers will help chil­dren learn to be in­no­va­tive and cre­ative. The sec­ond camp is where the chil­dren will go for wa­ter raft­ing, trekking and bird watch­ing in the lap of Hi­malayas. And in the third camp, there will be more of rope cour­ses, trekking and out­door sur­vival skills,” said Sachin Sata, pro­gramme co­or­di­na­tor.

In Be­la­pur, Life Away from Life is or­gan­is­ing five batches of chil­dren’s ad­ven­ture camps for age groups of eight to 14 years from April 24 to May 25 at Kamshet, 20km from Lon­avala.

“This is a na­ture aware­ness camp through which we in­tend to take the chil­dren closer to na­ture. We will en­gage the chil­dren in var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties such as kayak­ing, river cross­ing, burma bridge and zip line,” said Prateek Deo, moun­taineer and or­gan­iser of the camp.

Young Men’s Chris­tian As­so­ci­a­tion ( YMCA) is also or­gan­is­ing two out­door camps from May 9 to 13 and May 17 to 21. The two lake­side ad­ven­ture camps will be held at Nil­shi for chil­dren in the age group of eight to 14 years. “We will take par­tic­i­pants to a beauti- ful lake­side spot at Nil­shi near Pune. The five- day camp will have ad­ven­ture ac­tiv­i­ties such as archery, rock climb­ing, ri­fle shoot­ing and more,” said Leo Sallins, gen­eral sec­re­tary of YMCA, Be­la­pur.

How­ever, if you do not want to go out­doors and still have an ad­ven­tur­ous ex­pe­ri­ence, en­roll for the one-day stargaz­ing camp at Won­ders Park in Nerul hap­pen­ing on April 16 by Vashibased UK Kids.

“Many chil­dren do not want to go out of town. Hence, we are or­gan­is­ing the event in the city. The event is for chil­dren be­tween six to 14 years and is com­pli­men­tary for one of the par­ents,” said Nazia Sayy­eed, or­gan­iser of the event.
