BANK STAFFER CHEATS WOMAN OF `10L, BOOKED

The Kolshewadi police on Thursday booked a 35-yearold man for allegedly cheating a woman, 41, of Rs10.20 lakh by promising to procure jobs for her children. The accused, Mahesh Mhatre, is yet to be arrested.

Mhatre works in a co-operative bank at Kalyan. The complainan­t, who knows the accused, had approached him in 2013 for jobs for her children.

“The accused had assured the woman of jobs in a bank at Kalyan for her children. But told her she would have to deposit money in his account. Over three years, the woman said she deposited Rs10.20 lakh,” said an officer from Kolshewadi police station.

“He them started giving vague replies. The woman lodged a case after the accused started avoiding her calls,” said the officer. The police have charged the accused under IPC section 420.
