Two suicide cases have been registered in Thane and Ulhasnagar in the past 24 hours.

On Thursday, a 23-year-old man hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his house at Ulhasnagar 3.

Nikhil Vilas Baghal, a businessman, was deeply in debt, said his family members.

He was alone in his house when he took the drastic step. One of the neighbours saw him hanging and broke open the door. He was taken to civil hospital where he was declared dead.

A police officer from Ulhasnagar police station said, “During investigation, Baghal’s family members said that he was in debt and hence had been depressed for some time. Baghal used to deal in gold.”

On Friday around 10.30am, a man identified as Samir Sadanand Birje, 36, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Thane railway station. Birje, a resident of Sai Building in Thane’s Sawarkar Nagar, used to work in a private firm.

An officer from Government Railway Police (GRP) Thane said, “He had sustained severe injuries. As soon as we found his ID card in his pocket, we contacted his family members.”

His family members said he was depressed.

Later, the police found a suicide note saying he was depressed and that no one is responsible for his death.
