Students, residents get lessons in fire safety

NAVI MUMBAI: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has organised a three- day exhibition of the equipment used in firefighting operations at New Panvel fire station from Monday to Wednesday.

Residents were given information about safety equipment and ways to prevent fire.

The exhibition was a part of the fire safety week which was observed to create awareness across the state.

Vijay Rane, chief fire officer of Cidco, said, “The exhibition mostly focused on educating the people on preventing a fire and how to deal with it if it breaks out. A huge number of people visited the venue on all three days, making it a successful event.”

During the three days, fire officials provided details of equipment to the visitors.

“Our officials shared informa-

tion about the equipment and how to use. We also gave them demonstration in firefighting. In addition, visitors were given knowledge on how to procure a no-objection certificate (NOC) which is mandatory for commercial as well as residential buildings,” Rane said.

“There are people who do not have information about the process and so find it difficult when they have to procure. During the exhibition, we shared the process so that they can use it,” said Rane.

Different types of fire extinguishers, cutting equipment, hydraulic jacks, power saw, hydraulic pumps, fire suit, nozzles of different types and hydraulic cutters were on display.

“The general public only knows the fire tenders and the use of water to put out fires. The exhibition was an attempt to create awareness about the equipment and safety gear used by firefighting personnel to douse fire and to rescue trapped persons,” another officer said.

After a major fire broke out in a high- rise in Kharghar in February, the City and Industrial Development Corporation has been conducting awareness camps at housing societies and other public places.
