NAVI MUMBAI: Two persons died falling off moving trains in two separate accidents on Tuesday. While the second victim has been identified by the GRP officials, the first one has not yet been identified.

In the first incident, the victim aged between 45 and 50 fell off the train between Sanpada and Vashi railway stations around 4 pm.

He suffered severe injuries and he died on the spot.

In t he second i ncident, Sandeep Potkode, 30, a resident of Thane, fell from the train between Rabale and Airoli stations around 5.10pm.

He was returning home after attending a wedding at Panvel.

“Potkode was married and father of two daughters. We informed his family about the accident and called them Vashi. The body was later handed over to them after post mortem was conducted in Vashi hospital. We have registered accidental cases for both the incidents,” Uttam Marbal, assistant sub-inspector of Vashi GRP.

According to the railway sources, as many as 252 people died in the satellite city while crossing railway tracks or falling off moving trains in 2015. This number was 205 in 2014.

“Despite getting space inside a compartment, many people travel standing on the footboard, which is risky. Many of them try to jump into a compartment after the train starts leaving the platform. This is also one of the reasons why so many people die falling of trains in the city,” said a senior railway police.
